How to Make a Pet Nose or Paw Print Mold
Using Sculpey III
PLEASE READ BEFORE BEGINNING
Tip: Use your fingers to work the mold material first to soften and warm it up. It will give you a better impression and be gentler on your furry baby.
1. Make sure the pup's nose and paws are as clean and dry as possible. Any fuzz or particles on the nose or paws can appear in the mold and eventually in the finished silver piece. It's crucial to ensure there is nothing on the part being molded that you don't want in the final silver piece.
2. Each bag of Sculpey III can create two or more prints, depending on the size of your furry baby. Feel free to take a nose and paw print. The molds will be returned to you for safekeeping, and you can order more in the future if needed.
Tip: I highly recommend watching our YouTube video tutorial (below). Skip to about 4:30 seconds to see how I made my dog's nose print for the first time.
3. Open the bag of Sculpey III, take half of the clay inside, roll it into a ball, and gently press your finger into the clay, warming and softening it to create a better and gentler impression for your dog.
4. Roll your softened clay into a ball, then gently press it onto your dog's nose or paw. It's essential to maintain the ball's shape because it provides the depth necessary for a detailed impression. Please don't flatten the clay.
5. Once you have your desired print(s), bake the Sculpey to harden and set the mold. Preheat your oven to 275°F. I suggest using a toaster oven if you have one, as the pieces are so small. The clay is non-toxic, but it's a good idea to line your baking tray with tinfoil, as it's not a food-safe material.
6. Bake at 275°F for 10 minutes.
7. Once your mold is cooled off, place it in the ziplock baggie with the small piece of cardstock.
8. On the cardstock, please write the desired name and placement, either front or back of the charm. I always recommend the back so as not to cover any of the beautiful print.
Please note: If you desire any additional engraving (and it can be accommodated), a small fee of $29 will be charged. If a new mold kit is required, a fee will be charged for the cost of materials and shipping.
9. Securely tape your prepaid return label onto the bubble envelope that the molds originally came in, and place your hardened mold(s) into the envelope before shipping.
You can give the package to your mail carrier or drop it off at any local USPS location.
